General Motors Technical Center. The main design center owned by the General Motors Corporation is located in Warren, Michigan. It covers an area roughly one mile square, bounded by Twelve Mile Road on the south, Thirteen Mile Road on the north, Van Dyke on the east, and Mound Road on the West. The piece of land directly to the west of the Technical Center was owned by General Motors for many years, but remained vacant until fairly recently, when it was sold to Meijer's so they could build a Meijer's department store on the site. At times, the facility was called the 'Technology Center' instead of the 'Technical Center.' They publish a free newspaper which is given away in local shops and libraries, called 'Tech Center News'. The photo above shows a Chevrolet Volt on display at the southwest corner of the Technical Center.

Above: A photograph of a water tower at the General Motors Technical Center. In the 1950's, General Motors hired a well-known European architect named Eero Saarinen to design the Technical Center. This tower was part of the original design. Originally, this tower had a stainless-steel finish, but many years later it was painted white. There is another tower like this one, at the Technical Center, that still has it's original stainless-steel finish.
