Above: The Dredd DVD, copyright 2012. This DVD is a sequel to the original Judge Dredd, although it has a different actor playing Judge Dredd, the character is basically the same as the original. Is this movie, Judge Dredd is called upon to investigate the deaths of three common drug addicts who were murdered in a huge apartment building. He is accompanied by a young woman named Judge Anderson, who is going on her first assignment. She does not wear a helmet, and when Judge Dredd ask her why she's not wearing one, she says that the helmet interferes with her psychic abilities. During the course of the movie, Anderson uses her psychic powers to conduct investigations, by looking into the minds of criminals, witnesses, and others, and reading their minds.
The story involves Judge Dredd's assignment to enter the apartment building were the three drug addicts were killed, and arrest whoever was responsible. The three addicts were killed by a gang of drug dealers called 'Mama's Gang'. Mama's gang is controlled by a woman named 'Mama' who commands a small army of thugs, who are armed with various kinds of guns. Mama's gang controls all the drug-dealing activity in the entire building. When Judge Dredd and Judge Anderson enter the building, Mama uses a computer hacker to shut down the entire building, with a ruse. The ruse involves the hacker claiming he is conducting a civil defense drill. The drill is designed to test the building's defense system, which would be activated in the event of a natural disaster, such as a hurricane. If a hurricane struck, all the windows of the building would be closed with storm windows, the storm windows are massive shields made of bullet-proof metal. After Judge Dredd and Anderson are inside the building, the computer hacker starts the drill, and all the doors and windows of the building are sealed. This means that Dredd and Anderson are trapped inside.
Mama and her henchmen think that killing Dredd will be a simple matter, since Dredd is trapped inside the building. She is proven wrong, since Dredd manages to fight his way through the mobs of armed criminals that attack him from all sides. Mama realizes that killing Dredd is going to be difficult, so she calls in a few street judges who have bribed. The bribed judges are loyal to Mama, who promised to pay them a million for killing Dredd. The phony judges try to kill Dredd, but he kills them one by one, and he finally fights his way to the room where the computer hacker is controlling the building. Anderson uses her psychic abilities to read the mind of the computer hacker, so she can learn the secret password that he has memorized in his head. The password allows them to open the door of the room where Mama is hiding.
Judge Dredd and Judge Anderson enter the room where Mama is hiding, by using the password, they have to kill a few of Mama's bodyguards when they get in, but finally they are face to face with Mama. As Dredd asks Mama to surrender, she holds up her arm to show him a device strapped to her wrist. She explains that the device is rigged to detect her heartbeat, and if her heartbeat stops, the device will send out a signal that detonates a series of bombs. The bombs are rigged to destroy the entire building. Since there are thousands of people living in the building, they would all be killed if the building is blown up. Judge Dredd is reluctant to risk killing all the people in the building, but he makes a daring move, he fires his gun at Mama, and makes sures that he wounds her, instead of killing her. He then remarks that the device strapped to Mama's wrist would probably not have much range, and it probably wouldn't work if she were at the bottom of the building, so he throws her off the edge of a balcony and allows her to fall down to her death. The device fails to detonate the bombs, so the people in the buiding are saved.
